- What are Partners Groups?
-
- Partners Groups are support work groups for
those desiring to heal from the affects of living with a sex addict.
- How do they work?
-
- One person in the group who wants to assist
others who are in the healing process from the affects of sexual
addiction will become the point person and the contact person for the
group.
This person calls back those in need of help
and will explain the group process and materials needed. If the newcomer
is right for the group, the point person will inform the newcomer of the
time and location of the group.
The point person serves the group for a six to
twelve month period.
Partners Group Roles
- Point person serves as a contact person for anyone to be brought
into the group. This is to protect the group from someone just dropping
in on the group.
- The chair person is responsible to start the meeting making sure the
newcomers are welcomed and choosing the topic for the meeting. The
position of that chairperson rotates every 4-8 weeks so that others can
serve the group.
The Partners Meetings
- The chair person starts the group.
- Each person in the group does a short check in: "My name is Sue.
This week I worked on Exercise #14-#19 in my Partners Recovery Guide.
What I learned has...I am still on Step Two and my acting behaviors this
week have been..."
- Feedback time: After check in, if someone has feedback for another
group member they need to ask permission before giving this feedback to
them.
- The Topic-The chairperson brings up a topic so that everyone can
share something about the topic in a timely manner.
- Share Time-The group breaks off into dyads and triads. Here you
would share feelings, pain and issues of what is occurring during your
healing process. Feedback is encouraged but ask permission first.
- Group Ends-Try to end the group in a timely manner to allow those
who need to leave at a scheduled time.
